Wix Instagram feed not working? Find your cause, then fix it

Wix Instagram feed not working or not updating? Fixes in order: account type, a dropped connection, the old app, Meta’s API change, publishing and reels.

When the Wix Instagram feed stops working, the cause is usually the account or the connection. Since December 4, 2024, the Instagram Feed app only works with a Business or Creator account. If yours is one, open the app’s Account Settings, click Disconnect, then Connect, and publish your site. Reels and collab posts never show, so they can’t be your test.

Checked on November 4, 2026, against Wix’s help center and Meta’s developer docs, all linked below.

This guide is for the Instagram Feed app made by Wix, the one Wix’s help center calls “Instagram Feed (New)” in the editor. If your feed comes from another developer’s app in the Wix App Market, its connection lives in that app’s own settings, so reconnect there instead.

Rule out what isn’t broken

Three things look like a broken feed and aren’t. Check them before you touch a setting.

Your newest post is a reel. Wix says it’s “not possible to view reel posts on your live site” with the Instagram Feed app. In July 2022, Meta announced that “new video posts shorter than 15 minutes will be shared as reels”. So if your last post was a video, the feed is probably working: it’s showing your latest post it’s allowed to show. The full list of what the app skips is further down.

Likes, comments and your profile header are gone. That’s on purpose. Wix’s troubleshooting page says that because of a recent Instagram API change, the header, likes, comments, like count, comment count and verified badge don’t appear.

You haven’t published. Wix’s publishing page is plain about it: “Saved changes in the editor or preview mode will not appear on the live site until you publish them.” If the feed looks right in the editor and wrong on your site, go to step 5.

Check and fix, in order

1. Make sure it’s a Business or Creator account

This is the most common cause since late 2024. Wix’s setup page says that as of December 4, 2024, Instagram requires “either a Creator or a Business account” to keep using the Instagram Feed app on your site.

The date isn’t random. Meta announced in September 2024 that the Instagram Basic Display API, the one that let apps read personal accounts, would no longer be available from December 4, 2024, and that “all Instagram Basic Display API requests will fail from that day onwards.” Meta pointed businesses and creators to two replacements:

What replaced itWorks with
Instagram API with Instagram LoginProfessional accounts, no Facebook Page needed
Instagram API with Facebook LoginProfessional accounts linked to a Facebook Page

Meta’s platform overview is short on this: “your app users must have an Instagram professional account.” No website builder can pull posts from a personal account through Meta’s official APIs anymore, Wix included.

How to check. Wix’s business account page suggests looking for View professional dashboard on your Instagram profile. If it isn’t there, your account is personal.

How to fix it. Instagram’s business page gives the path: on your profile, tap the menu at the top right and open your settings, then Account type and tools, then Switch to professional account. Pick a category and select Business.

Business or Creator? Both connect. Wix’s About page says Business accounts get more features in the app, and its setup page describes Business as “best for retailers, local businesses, brands.” If you run a store, pick Business.

Then connect again in Wix: click the app in your editor, go to Account Settings, click Connect, then Change, and choose your profile type. Wix’s flow then asks for a category and your contact details, with optional boxes to show each on your profile.

2. Reconnect the account

If the account is professional and the feed still won’t load, the connection has most likely dropped. Wix’s troubleshooting page says the message “Looks like you’ve changed your password” means the app has disconnected from your Instagram account, often after a password change or an update on Facebook’s side.

The fix:

  1. Click the Instagram Feed app in your editor.
  2. Click Account Settings.
  3. Click Disconnect at the bottom of the panel.
  4. Click Connect and follow the pop-up.

If the panel already shows the account as disconnected, skip straight to Connect.

Why do connections lapse even when you changed nothing? An app that reads your posts holds a permission from Meta that can run out. For apps using Instagram Login, Meta’s Business Login docs say a long-lived token is valid for 60 days, and tokens not refreshed in that time “will expire and can no longer be refreshed.” Refreshing is the app’s job. When it fails, a fresh login is the way back.

Some reconnections fail with an error. Here’s what Wix says to do for each:

Error or symptomWhat to do
“400 session invalid”Log in to the right account on instagram.com and open the Accounts Center. Under Profiles, click Add accounts and add a Facebook account (you can remove it later), then reconnect in the app (troubleshooting page).
“Your activity off Meta is turned off”In the Accounts Center, click Your information and permissions, then Your activity off Meta technologies, Manage future activity and Connect future activity (troubleshooting page).
“Request parameters invalid”On the Instagram mobile app, not the desktop site: tap your profile icon, then Settings and activity. Under App website permissions, tap Apps and websites, remove Wix, then connect again from your editor (setup page).
The login pop-up doesn’t openTurn off your pop-up blocker or update your browser (setup page).

3. Find out if you have the old app

Wix has two versions of the app, and the old one is slower. Wix’s setup page tells them apart:

  • Old version: you added the app before April 2024, or it came preinstalled with your site template.
  • New version: you added it in April 2024 or later.

The old app is no longer in the Wix App Market. Wix’s switching page says it had “limited update intervals,” while the new app offers “faster refresh rates, showing updates in real-time.” If your feed works but new posts take a long time to appear, this is your step.

To switch, click the Instagram Feed app in your editor, click Settings, then Try It Now. The new app has more design options, so look at it in Preview before you publish.

Staying on the old app for now? Wix’s business account page for it adds two checks. If a personal account is connected and you can’t switch, disconnect it first, then connect your business account. And make sure a Facebook Page is linked to your Instagram account, under Edit profile, then Page, in the Instagram app.

4. Check which account the feed is showing

If the feed shows someone else’s posts, or an old account of yours, the wrong one was logged in when you connected. Wix’s troubleshooting page gives the order:

  1. On instagram.com, check which account you’re signed in to. If it’s the wrong one, sign out and sign in to the right one.
  2. Back in your editor, select the Instagram Feed app and go to Account Settings.
  3. Click Disconnect, then Connect, then Allow.

5. Publish, then look without your cache

Wix’s live site page says a site that differs from the editor is, in most cases, saved but not published. Click Publish at the top right of the editor. Clicking Save alone won’t put changes live.

If the live site still looks old, Wix’s publishing page suggests clearing your browser cache, testing in an incognito window, or publishing again. After any fix in steps 1 to 4, publish before you judge the result, so you aren’t looking at the version from before the fix.

6. Bring back a deleted widget

If the feed disappeared from the page, it may have been deleted by accident. In your editor, open the My Business tab, click Instagram Feed (New), then Add Widget, as Wix’s troubleshooting page describes.

7. Still stuck: contact Wix with the right details

Wix’s troubleshooting page lists what to send so support can act on the first reply: your site name or URL, your browser and its version, your operating system and its version, the steps you took and what happened, a screenshot of the problem, and a screenshot of your browser’s console. For the console, open an incognito window in Chrome, sign in to Wix, reproduce the issue, press Ctrl + Shift + J on a PC or Cmd + Option + J on a Mac, open the Console tab, press F5 and take the screenshot.

What the Wix Instagram feed can’t show

Some posts will never appear, whatever you reconnect. All of these come from Wix’s own help pages:

On InstagramIn the Wix Instagram Feed app
Reels (and, since Meta’s July 2022 change, most video posts)Not shown on your live site (Wix)
Story highlightsNot shown (Wix)
Collab posts, posts by specific tags, @mentionsNot shown (Wix)
Product tags from Instagram ShoppingNot possible in the app (Wix)
Header, likes, comments, counts, verified badgeNot shown since an Instagram API change (Wix)
A post you’d rather hideYou can’t choose which posts display (Wix)

Stories aren’t on Wix’s list of what the app shows either: its About page says it displays your posts and videos. On Meta’s side, the media reference says Stories aren’t returned with an account’s other posts and need a separate request.

Wix lists most of these as feature requests you can vote for, with no date. For a store, the practical rule is simple: if you want something to stay on your site’s feed, post it as a photo post, not a reel.

Once it works, give it something to show

A Wix Instagram feed usually sits on the home page, where a shopper decides whether your store is still open. A working feed with a last post from August says “not much happening here” to every visitor. So fixing the connection is half the job.

Before you post, drop your next few images into the free Instagram grid preview to see how they sit next to what’s already live. If the grid looks scattered, the 15-minute grid fix has 12 fixes for a store’s Instagram grid. For what to post, start with the post ideas for online stores, or the boutique ideas if you sell clothing and accessories. If you also run a Squarespace site, the Squarespace feed guide covers that block.

And if your feed is fine and the real problem is finding time to post, that’s what Season is for. Season reads products, photos and prices from Shopify and WooCommerce stores, and from other store sites when their product pages can be read. It designs posts in your look, plans 3 months on a calendar and publishes them at set times through Instagram’s official API, with the same Business or Creator account your Wix feed needs. It can’t repair the Wix app or an Instagram setting. What it does is keep posts coming, so the feed always has something new. Season opens soon: get early access.

Questions

Wix Instagram feed not updating: why, and what do I do?

Most often the connection to Instagram has dropped, the account isn’t a Business or Creator account, or your newest post is a reel, which the app doesn’t show. Open the app’s Account Settings, click Disconnect, then Connect, and publish your site. If you added the app before April 2024 or it came with your template, switch to the new app, which Wix says refreshes faster.

Can I connect a personal Instagram account to the Wix Instagram Feed app?

No. Wix says that as of December 4, 2024, Instagram requires a Creator or a Business account to keep using the app. That’s the day Meta ended the Instagram Basic Display API, and Meta’s current APIs only work with professional accounts. Switching is done in the Instagram app, under Account type and tools.

Why doesn’t my Wix Instagram feed show my reels?

Wix says it’s currently not possible to view reel posts on your live site with the Instagram Feed app. In July 2022, Meta said new video posts would be shared as reels, so most videos you post won’t appear. Photo posts still show.

How do I know if I have the old Wix Instagram Feed app?

Wix says you have the old version if you added the app before April 2024, or if it came preinstalled with your site template. To switch, click the app in your editor, click Settings, then Try It Now. The old app is no longer in the Wix App Market.

Why are likes and comments missing from my Wix Instagram feed?

That’s expected, not a broken feed. Wix’s troubleshooting page says that after a recent Instagram API change, the header, likes, comments, their counts and the verified badge don’t appear. Your posts should still show.

Does the Wix Instagram feed show my Instagram product tags?

No. Wix says it isn’t possible to tag shopping elements in the Instagram Feed app, and lists it as a feature request. To send shoppers from a post to a product, name the product in the caption the way it’s named in your store.
