Preview your Instagram grid before you post

Type your business name and your @, pick your colors, a font and a style, and see nine posts the way your profile grid will show them. It uses the same post designs Season makes for real accounts.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Runs in your browser

Drawn with Season’s own post designs. Profile grids crop posts to 3:4, like Instagram does.

Grid check

  • Good: Every color has text that reads well on it.
  • Good: You have a dark and a light color, so posts alternate and the grid breathes.
  • Good: Your colors are different enough to tell apart.
  • Good: Fraunces reads as soft serif, cafés, wellness, crafts. Use it for every title, and nothing else.
  • Good: Bold: big type on your colors. Loud, made to stop the scroll.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Type your name and @

They show up in the profile header, like on Instagram.

  2. 2

    Pick your colors

Start from a preset or type your own brand colors in hex. Four colors are plenty.

  3. 3

Choose a font and a style

One title font for every post. Bold puts big type on your colors; Clean keeps it light.

  4. 4

    Read the grid check

It flags text that’s hard to read, colors that look the same, and a palette with no dark or light color.

What makes a grid look consistent

  • Three or four colors, each with a job

A dark one for text-heavy posts like tips, a light one so the grid can breathe, and one or two accents for news and offers. Rotate them so two neighbors never share a color.

  • One title font, everywhere

Pick one display font for every title and stick to it. Mixing fonts is the fastest way to make a feed look like five different people made it.

  • Alternate photos and designed posts

A grid of only text posts feels like a slideshow, and a grid of only photos loses your message. Mixing them, roughly every other post, keeps it lively.

  • Shoot your photos the same way

Same spot, same light, same distance. Consistent photos do more for a grid than any filter.

  • Design for the 3:4 crop

Your profile grid shows each post as a 3:4 rectangle cut from the 4:5 post. Keep titles and faces away from the top and bottom edges so nothing important gets cut.

  • Make it readable at thumbnail size

In the grid, a post is about the size of a stamp. Five words in big type read well; a paragraph doesn’t.

Questions

Is the Instagram grid preview free?

Yes. It runs in your browser, with no sign-up and nothing to install.

What size should Instagram posts be?

Post in 4:5 portrait, for example 1080 by 1350 pixels. Your profile grid then shows each post cropped to 3:4, so keep the important part away from the top and bottom edges.

How many colors should an Instagram grid use?

Three or four is enough for most brands: one dark, one light, and one or two accents. Beyond that, the grid starts to look random.

Can Season make my real grid?

Yes. Season reads your Instagram, your website and your photos to build your brand’s look, then designs, writes and posts your next 3 months of posts. You approve each week in 2 minutes.
